Should I seek treatment for anxiety?

The following are some reasons you should consult a psychologist about your anxiety:

  • Your worries are interfering with your relationships, work, or other parts of your daily life
  • You have other mental health concerns along with anxiety (such as drinking or drug use, or depression)

Living with anxiety can be a long-term challenge. It often occurs along with other mood disorders. Anxiety improves in most cases with psychotherapy and/or medications.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that is particularly useful for treating anxiety. CBT teaches new ways of thinking, behaving, and reacting to situations to help feel less worried or anxious. It can be easier to treat anxiety if you receive treatment before your symptoms becomes severe.
